XFINITY SNEAKY UPGRADE IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT

I was going to leave this alone, I really was.  #Xfinity updated their Cable boxes last night at three in the morning.  Most people don’t know or care.  I found out this morning because my Dad told me the cable was out this morning around three, maybe because of the wind.  I didn’t think much about it.  Then this afternoon when I turned the #TV on I noticed the settings were changed.  The pictures on non-#HD channels were not only #letterboxed, they were completely surround in black boxes.  Also when I tried to change the #channel the number format had changed.  It’s now a large black box with a white line and white writing which says the #channel number.  The reason I have digital cable and send #largechecks to #XFINITY every month is so that I have a guide which displays at the bottom of the screen when I change the channel.  I don’t need a second box in black on top, blocking a third of the top of the screen, to tell me information that is on the bottom of the screen in bigger letters.  Also a new change that was imported to my cable box without my being notified is to the guide itself.  When you look up a specific episode from the timetable guide and look up the other times that it is playing, it automatically starts listing the earliest showing before the one that you were looking at.  I know that was a horrible sentence but what was done to the guide was horrible too.  The end result of that meddling is that when you are #channelsurfing you may end up wiping out on the wrong channel instead.  Of the first two problems, one is fixable and one is frustrating but completely out of the consumers hands.  The #blackboxing and #letterboxing can be fixed by changing settings in your #cable remote.  You have to turn the power off to your #cable while the #TV is on.  Then hit the #cable button and the menu button and a menu will appear on your screen.  You have to change it to #Native settings.  The #bigblackchannelbox, we can only complain about,  But please do.  Take to #Twitter and #Tumblr and #YouTube and #Instagram it and whatever it takes.  It is a completely redundant upgrade, and if they can do this to our #cableboxes while we sleep, what else have they/could they do?  What else are they doing it to?  They have connected to all your devices in your home? What might be coming down the line in 6months or a year?  Tell your friends to tell their friends.  I want to know what #Xfinity is doing to my #cable box #DVR #INTERNET #PHONE #iPad #iPhone #Adroidphone #computer #laptop

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Rumours

   

As E Plurubus Unum, that watched on BBC America as the original Doctor Who episode "The Aztecs" aired last night January, 27, 2013. There was a lot of Wiboly-Woboly Timey WiNEY talking before hand, in case you didn't notice. Some of the information on the original series was great, it was LOVELY to see David Tennant, but anyone seriously into Doctor Who will have purchased/viewed at least one DVD with extras that contain similar information. There is also available old interview footage from cast members who have passed away. It seems odd that they choose not to use it.

"The Aztecs" is a good Classic Doctor Who(once you turn a blind eye to the 60's special effects). I understand that The Powers That Be were using it to illustrate a point. They even mentioned it in the pre-show talking points. The Doctors first mentions to Barbara that certain things are fixed in time and can't be altered. Also the Doctor is almost bambozzled into getting married. But as in most of Doctor Who's predictaments, this one is resolved quickly with none of the Doctor's companion lives at stake.

Some things come to mind though. Steven Moffot for one. Another thing is that we were promised a year where Who would take over our tvs. One special a month does not cover that. According to my line up, they're not even repeating this special. My thoughts are as follows. We were promised eleven Doctors in the anniversary special, right? I think River Song is supposed to be involved in bringing them together. I think the episodes/serials of the classic/new who are being shown are easter eggs, thrown out there to put the peices of the puzzle together for those care to find out. The first episode they ran after the first Doctorspecial was "Blink". Maybe a way to retrieve the other doctors without blowing up the universe involves their (the Weeping Angels) quantumlock.

It would be odd NOT to mention the many Gene(pronounced Jenny)/Clara/Suzan mystical connections that everyone is sure will pop up. I'm more inclined to think Clara is something utterly different but that Gene and/or Suzan will show up in the anniversary special.

Is Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who? If he is going to go, what more spectacular way then on the 50th anniversary when the show is at its peak? I think he still has time on his contract, though, so don't start shopping for bow ties just yet. On the rumors about him being replaced with a time lady, hmmm. I don't think that the charector would be the same. I however would be perfectly content with a Time Lady companion, maybe even a relative. His mom, or an elderly madien aunt comes in to boss him around. That would be histerical. Or Gene or one of Suzans children would be a touching return to the original grandfather like charector.

As for all the Doctors still living showing up, your guess is as good as mine. From day to day, each one has a new story. That strikes me as a cover story for what's really going on. David Tennant for instance had said in one interview that he hadn't even been approarched reguarding the 50th anniverasry and there he was on my tv last night in beautiful HD lying color. Granted it was only an interview so he may not have seen it as Doctor Who, but what else is he lying about? Of course several of the Doctors have passed away, but hey Kayne West is on CNN right? I don't know how you would explain the ones that have aged unless they were caught on Apalapucia at different time rates to explain why they aged differently. Or they could have been made to think they were humans like David Tennant did in the 1910's when Martha was traveling with him. I DO have an explaination for the Ghosts of those who have gone before. The suits from the Library when the Vahsta Nerada ate people. It left an imprint. Little easier to achieve then a full hologram and a Time Lord could have left purposful imprints anywhen and where, like a will.

Doctor Who Announcement

Is it just me or was the hype not worth it?  There was massive hype that a big announcement was coming on January 23, 2013 regarding Doctor Who.  There were many rumors varying from believable to far fetched.  I particularly liked some of them.  I also have a few of my own.  How about that the doctor is real and actually left his blue book in 1963 when he came back in time?  Why was he back here?  To save Kennedy of course!  And because he screwed up he was turned into a human.  The 50th anniversary revives him and we find out Doctor Who! But seriously BBC you promised us that the doctor would take over our TV's this year.  At the very least, run old episodes more then the ten promised.  It's better then leftover Kitchen Nightmares or Top Gears. 

Social Music Site

It comes to my attention that no one has seen fit to outfit the internet with a social music website.  When MySpace.com was originally started it was geared to the entertainment industry but who still uses MySpace anymore?  I think there should be a social music website that is like instagram was to pictures when it started. You could post your own music.  You could could discuss other people's music.  You could make and exchange playlists.  I'm sure that someone more creative then me could come up with more applications.  Maybe something with autotune. You could also have band and genre specific pages.  #Songpop would be a perfect fit there.  I'm sure there are numerous other games that could be played with music involved.  It's ashamed I don't have time, money or investment capital(plus the technical know how) to set this up.  I bet this is a sure fire money maker.

Car Crash Songs

Yesterday while playing #SongPop HE STOPPED LOVING HER TODAY was one of the song I was supposed to guess. It was sung by George Jones so I got the question right for knowing that but it haunted me that I hadn't heard the song or it hadn't lingered in my mind very well. When I finally listened to the song all the way, through I realized it belonged in a very unique category. My family calls those types of songs "car songs" because generally someone dies in a car crash, but the song I heard yesterday might also have applied to an old Facebook Note that I have now dredged up here for you amusement.

Continual Struggles With Nook


N.B.  After several back and forth replies I finally got a refund of $8.55 to be applied to my credit card in the next one to two billing statements depending on how my banks cut off date works.  I used it to apply to the purchase of a soft cover of the book I had already owed.  I had to pay $7.99 and I had someone who had a Amazon Prime account buy it for me so that I didn't have to pay shipping.  Since it is a ACTUAL book there will be NO issue will the FORMAT, the FORMAT is PAPER and INK.  I do like the convenience of having a large number of books in a small tablet that I can carry with me, however it doesn't seem that privilege is worth the cost of possibly losing all your books or being subject to the whims of a nameless corporation that took a month to resolve my issue.

Christmas EVE thoughts

I tried to sleep.  It's not working. I feel like one of the old fashioned doll, the kind that are strung together by several pieces of string. Except one on my strings is missing, the one that connects the head and left arm.  I feel all floppy and my hand is shaking. My head feels to tight on one side and to loose on the other.  Pain pills take me away! Soon it will be Christmas and all over and I can sleep all day and no one will care. I really could sleep all day, If I don't take my new medication.  I can still nap, which is supposed to be impossible, but I can. Tomorrow, I will make a large pot of Starbucks Expresso blend coffee fresh ground and eat lots of sugar.  Then I will crash after everyone leaves and wake up just in time for Doctor Who, or if not there's always DVR!

Continual Struggles with #NOOK

So After four days #Barnes & Nobles got back to me.  That I needed to resend them my book title and the last four digits of my credit card and my mailing address.  I figured, finally I will at least get my money back.  The next e-mail gave me instructions on how to reset my Nook to factory reset.  I sent back a one line answer.  "IT DIDN'T WORK!"  The reply to that was "We will reply in 12-24 hours."  Is it just me or does the service on this product #suck?  With all the people who are switching to e-readers, the store had better be able to deal with technology problems. What actually got a response from someone was an e-mail threatening them that I was going to start looking into a #Kindle.

So my new medicine that is supposed to be keeping me from sleeping all day is keeping me from sleeping all night. I can't win for trying.  I know there are a lot worse things happening to in the world and people who have things that are seriously wrong with them but it's very hard to remember when you've gotten five hours sleep in the last three days.  I lay in bed to go to sleep and toss and turn. I also have something wrong with my sleep cycle so I'm constantly waking up. Right now my face is tingling from my migraine medicine, too.  I have done everything possible so that I can be comfortable.  I have a Tempurpedic bed.  I have polar fleece sheets and about five blankets all of soft materials.  I have multiple firm pillows.  I keep everything I could possibly need next to my bed so I don't have to get up and mess up my sleep.  Yet none of this seems to help.  My brain keeps running.  Here I sit type at quarter to four in the morning and I haven't even sleep a bit.  With Christmas coming, I have things to do I I can't afford to nap all day as I have been doing to to compensate for my lack of night sleep.  That's right.  The reason I caved and went to the doctor is that for the past few weeks I've been sleeping almost all day and still feeling tired.  I know that's wrong.  I have to go get another sleep study done.  I had one done before but it wasn't completed.  There are two parts to the study and I didn't have the second part done.  They didn't tell me about the second and I had scheduled another appointment so I was unable to complete it then.  I won't be able to do the sleep study till after Christmas.  I'm not sure what actually having a label on my sleep disorder will do.  Will saying I'm a narcoleptic or that I have R.E.M. cycle disorder make a difference? Okay rant over, I just needed to get that out. Sorry!

Barnes & Nobles UNSATISFIED CUSTOMER

Dear Barnes and Nobles,

After having written you numerous times, I have decided to write and open letter on the internet hoping to get your attention.  I have been a loyal customer for many year and spent thousand of dollars with your company.  I received a Nook eReader as gift.  I have purchased many books for it.  I had to archive books because I did not have enough space on the device.  When I went to retrieve my book, my Nook said the format was not acceptable to this device.  Since the book was purchased from barnesandnobles.com, there should have been no problem with the format.  I wrote to the customer service department with my pertinent information.  I was sent a form letter back saying I would be contacted within 12 to 24 hours.  I was then sent a letter that the order number was needed.  This book was purchased more then 12 months ago so the order number is not available to access on the Barnes and Nobles website.  When I wrote them the response to their inquiry,  I informed them the authors name and the name of the book again, even though I had previously given them that information in the original letter.  I hadn’t heard back so I re-sent the letter.  I again received the same form letter that read “we will respond to you in 12 to 24 hours“.  That e-mail was sent on December 4, 2012 at 8:44pm.  I have not received a response since.  This type of  behavior is unacceptable for a major corporation such as Barnes and Nobles.  I am putting this letter on my Blog, Twitter, Facebook, and Tumbler pages and encouraging my friends and family to share this story.  It is close to the holidays.  Maybe some will reconsider their purchases this season.
