Masque

Fake smiles on put upon faces
No genuine laughs to lighten the day
Nary a hope of knowing what one’s place is
Only the masque, a mere children’s play
We cavort and politic, Sell our secrets for fame
Keeping the bigger ones close to our chest
Legions of fans screaming a name
Never willing to take five minutes rest
When one of them falls another will rise
A sad state of affairs, a hard thing to see
A short focus on the cause of demise
Never willing to place the blame where it should be
We worship too hard and plot our way
But sometimes it’s taken way too far
There’s a line that’s crossed, very easy to stray
To be near the rising star
Leave them time for their lives, it will be good
Their work will gain for it too
Think if it was your life you know you would
Dislike being stalked, True?

Somehow the rhyme scheme got away from me here.  The sentiment is there though.
