Darkness

I walk through this dark and lonely world
My hope is bent and broken
I sit with my spirit all unfurled
There is so much left unsaid
This is a calm that comes of this
      Waiting here in the dark
It almost seems to bring me bliss
So cold, so deep, so stark.

To My Dark Love

Your hair is thick with chestnut curls
Your eyes with amber waves
I feel my life begin to whirl
I must be strong and brave
Adrift on unquiet endless seas
My mind begins to haze
The world is filled with a humming breeze
As time comes into phase
In your gaze, my eyes are caught
I fall and fall with grace
This lesson we all must need be taught
We will all find our place
Together the world seems all right
Falling in love in the dark of night

Suspense

The air collapses in
Dark fills my mind
Feeling deserted
Holding on by a thread
Only one thing
Keeps this broken heart
Beating
Waiting
Suspended
Your Love Alone

The Light

Does that mean if I call your name,
You'll be there at the ready?
I confess it somehow frightens me
To think of you so steady
From mirth to tears and back again
All life's simple joys
Are brighter love because of you
You quiet maddening noise
When at first you came to me
I found myself quite lost
The magnitude of loving you
What would be the final cost?
But now I crave your company
Your touch in darkened night
I confess my early sins for now,
I've come to see the light

Revelations

So terrified of what it means
What calls in the dark of night
You are the brightest of light
Keeping me from losing my cool
Coming apart at the seams
My battered knight in armor
No longer shiny and new
It’s not anyone’s place to judge
Intolerable what people think they can do
To figures on paper-mache
Used for money or power
Not important for what they portray
Kings no longer have power
Should they?

My Past

My past

A dark corridor
Is where eternity lies
Wrought with sorrow
Pain and Sighs,
You bright up my life in
Like the sun in mid June
Like the sky fills the moon
An illusion of an oasis
You go and disappear
The sorrow in my ribs
Again begins to sear
I guess I’ll never know
The treasure I have found
Until it disappears,
Without trace or sound
The light up ahead
Will guide me home
Never again shall I forget
Where I‘ve come from

Grey Skies

Grey Skies
The dark clouds are heavy in the sky
They brim with the tears of heaven
It falls with desperate longing
I look out my window
The drops fall faster
A heavy heart
When it stops
Skies clear
Calm

I’d forgotten about these weird little forms of poems.  This is a Nonet.  It starts with nine syllable then each line has a decrease if one syllable until the last line which has one.  Interesting.  But I needed a form tonight. Lacking inspiration.

Simple Wanderer

All my tomorrows
Bleed into yesterdays
When the burden of proof
Lies in the beholder
Truth flies on the wings
On a snow white dove
When you can’t believe
What you your eyes tell you
Bring to me you fears
I’ll lend you my sorrows
Together we will be
The saddest of companions
But maybe together
We can conquer the world
I’ll lend you my hand
But I must see where to place it
Without a direction
I’m simply a wanderer
Groping in the dark

A Moment's Notice

Touching in the dark
The only time allowed
Fierce, Furious, Fatal
Time standing still
Ready at moment’s notice to stop
The slightest observation
Could end this rendezvous
Divert their glances
Look, over there!
Now! While they are busy!
Let’s run for the hills!
You and me against the world,
United, we can do anything,
Divide we shall fall, fail, fumble
Is there enough time
To be touched?

Coin Flip Poems

Everyone holds in them the possibility of being light or dark, hope and

joy.  Here are two poems that show both sides of the coin, so to speak.

JARS OF CLAY
Jars of clay can’t capture of hearts
Hands can’t hold our spirits
Break us down to our component parts
We still retain our specialness
In the break of dawn we will rise
Our hearts will soar to new heights
Every new day we sing new praise
Tomorrow brings new challenges

                                                                                                               JUST OUT OF REACH
Reaching for the stars just out of grasp
                                                                                                    Falling further and further away
                                                                                                                               I don’t know
                                                                                                             I keep reaching overhead
                                                                                                        Knowing they just get away
The stars will align for their own desperate need
Needing no help for anyone here
                                                                                                                    Why should I think
                                                                                                         That I’m someone special?
                                                                                                                 I shed one single tear
