I really want to write something about the new Doctor, Peter Capadli. I will get to it but my laptop is being fixed so until then...

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary MY Guesses

What do we know?  First we know that the Doctor get called to UNIT for some reason.   Let’s assume (I know, never assume) that they send a signal out to the doctor and accidentally call 11 AND 10.  That accounts for Tennant and Billy Piper being there.  They tell him that they have a creature claiming to be Elizabeth the first in custody and they need him to verify who she is.  She says that she came through a time bubble at Loch Ness so that makes her suspect because that’s where the Zygons were last.  This also accounts for a different actress playing the role.  She turns into a Zygon but she is from the 70’s.  There is still a time bubble.  The Time War is starting to unlock from the Time Lock The Doctor (John Hurt) put on it.  Lord Benthem and The General are the First Time Lords to come through and try to warn The Doctor.  We get to see lots of CGI and Green Screen of the Time War, a regeneration or two (8 to 9, 9 to 10 maybe), some flashbacks of the doctor running away (because the doctor always runs), and we get a plausible explanation for why The Doctor get more the 13 regenerations and why regeneration 13 wasn’t The Valeyard like it was supposed to be. (Maybe he sacrifices a specific regeneration to make the Time Lock that would be a good one to give up)  Of course this is Moffat.  He lies.  The Doctor lies.  Or so we’ve been told.  It is a nice story to cover the fact that they don’t pay the researchers enough.   I think I managed to cover all the shots they’ve let us see.  They certainly have been generous with what they WANT us to see.  However, what we didn’t see it something else.  I am still half betting that the whole thing was filmed on a sound stage and the stuff we saw was staged to make us believe what Moffat wants us to believe.  The only reason that didn’t figure into my plot theory is that the Beebs is too cheap to let Moffat film and throw away the tape.  Even if those shots become an additional episode somewhere on a DVD.  I know that film will be used somewhere.  I wonder if anyone bothered to notice if the cameras they were using were 3D or not?  That would make a difference.

Twelve guesses for the Twelfth doctor

1.Someone no one has ever heard of- This is my number one pick.  This is the general direction they go.  Most of the doctors were unknown when they were cast.  There was only one that had a heavy TV presence going in was Peter Davidson.
      2.Hugh Laurie- He seems to be the front runner.  I personally think that he is a great actor but he brings too much baggage to the role.  The Doctor as a druggie??

   3.Ruppert Grint- He also seems to be a crowd favorite.  I could see it, but again he brings the baggage of previous roles.  Expecto patronium TARDIS?

   4.Colin Morgan- I personal like this choice but the producers would never go for it.  He was already in an episode. (Midnight) I think he has the ability to take the Doctor in a new direction.

    5.Karen Gillan- Admit it, I made you think.  It has been shown that Time Lords can control the regeneration, remember Romana? The Doctor could be Scottish AND a Lady AND a Ginger!  Hurts your head doesn’t it?!

    6.Idris Elba- I personally see him as too serious for the role but it seems worth mentioning.

    7.Andrew Lee Potts- I think he’s funny and not so well associated with any character.  He’s not too old and plays funny and bumbling well.

    8.Jonas Amrstrong- I loved him in Robin Hood. He might be a touch too serious though.

    9.Sam Troughton- Good with the comedy, loved him in Robin Hood and Bonus Pat Troughton’s grandson! 

   10.Marina Sirtis- Someone else said this.  I thought about and it would be a different way to go.  I’m not sure it would play well with all the audiences.  I love her though!

   11.Aidian Turner- He’s cute and broody.  What else can you say?  Wait, I take that back, he’s hot!

   12.Damien Molony- See above.

Okay, so you can tell I’m US based because I picked a lot of BBC America actors.  I think they will pick someone that no one knows because that is what they always do.  I don’t know why we bother picking or guessing.  If I had my druthers I would pick either Karen or Sam.  That would make my day! :)

Orphans and Mad Men in Blue Boxes

So, tonight saw a double blow in BBC America viewing public's hearts. First, the break out hit Orphan Black finished its freshman run with massive reveals, spoilers and quite a few OMG moments.  Second, it was announced almost timed to coincide with the airing of Orphan Black that Matt Smith would not be returning to the TARDIS next season.  Wow!  Can we hurt anymore?

First, let start with Orphan Black. If you have not been watching this amazing show, shame on you.  Go back now, we'll wait.  Ok, caught up now?  It’s great, right? So Evil Proclone is the original I think.  I can't believe Mrs. S is evil.  I think she probably worked for the company and had a change of heart like Delphine. That's why Mrs. S moved to the US.  I don't understand why Mrs. S. ran with Kirra, though.  I can't believe Alison killed the neighbor, although I knew the Donnie was the monitor.  Remember Donnie mentioned that he dated in college when he was broken up with Alison? I bet it turns out to be a clone too!  I’m willing to bet Helena rises from the grave or is not really dead, mainly because she's a really good character.  I want to know how Sara and Paul escaped the elevator because that looked really cool and there were guards upstairs and downstairs.  If the clones were made in the US, I believe that the constitution would guarantee their rights based on the 13^th amendment. Okay, I think I got everything. Whew!

Now on to our favorite Time Lord! Allon-sy!  Maybe David Tennant will return.  Ha, but a girl can dream can't she! *Sigh* Now I'm questioning every single word that has come down from on high from BBC regarding the 50th because they had already made a statement saying that Matt was making season 8.  So why should we believe any statement up to and including who is starring in the special?  All names go back in the hat.  Also I had said before that the scenes shot did not seem to jive with what the official press release said.  Also Matt said painting, but Matt said staying so...

The prophesy said the fall of the eleventh. Maldovar, the blue dude said the eleventh. If John Hurt is playing a Doctor between Paul McGann and Chris Eccleston the fall of the Eleventh already happened on Christmas day a few years ago. (I MISS TENNANT!) JUST SAYING!

Spoiler Escape 2013

So I will do a review of Nightmare in Silver later.  Let’s deal with Spoiler Escape 2013.  First, let me say I wish I had bought Season 7B from wherever they let the birdies fly early.  How lucky can you get!  Second, BBC is doing a good job of keeping the spoilers of the net.  I’m not just talking about this mess with the early birdies.  The filming on the fiftieth has been done for about a week, a large part was done outside in full public view and only minimal pictures have surfaced.  They are the same pictures on every site.  They might as well have BBC stamped on the bottom because if they didn’t approve they wouldn’t be there.  They could be enough pictures to get a good idea of the plot.  Also, how come the PA, grips, and best boys haven’t leaked any plot details?  Now that they are in editing all someone has to do is go home mention something to a friend…  It’s the Brits, I swear it is.  This would never happen in America!  How many movies have had the endings out before the Premier?  I don’t know if I can wait a week till the next episode and 6 months till the anniversary.  At least they are running the specials in between and there’s always reruns and classic doctor on DVD.  I have a significant collection, and it’s growing…  Donations can be made to AMAZON.COM, JK, well maybe not, I have a wish list!

The Crimson Horror

The Crimson Horror

First, let me address the elephant in the room.  Can we say misogyny? The crimson horror was one of the terms men used for women during that time of the month.  Now, I will give some benefit of the doubt, maybe that’s just an American phrase.   But let’s get back to the episode.

Okay, what was with the feinting dude?  Was he a reference to Pat Troughton and his love of Panto(mime)?  Was it just comic relief?  It seemed stupid to me. 

Next there was a vague one line reference to Tegan.  I understand it’s the fiftieth and they want to cramp in all the references they can but the way the line was written it seemed like the doctor didn’t like her at all! 

Now I know the spiraling staircase was a throwback to “Snowmen”, but it gave me a headache.  Up and down, down and up.

There were several throwaway references to the Great Intelligence that either weren’t used or will come up later.  First the “terror rained (reigned) down”.  That was how the GI was defeated in “The Snowmen”.  The Sweetville symbol was similar to the GI symbol.

Also what was with the Thomas Thomas kid?  I got the symbology.  It was so lame I missed it the first time.

I know this is not my usual review but this was not the best episode.  Sorry, try again next week.  Eight ball fuzzy.

Journey to the Center of the T.A.R.D.I.S.

So I took me a while to write my review of Journey to the Center of the TA.R.D.I.S..  Why? I generally take a couple of views to get all the references to Classic Who and pick up subtleties I might otherwise have missed.  However, the BBC did my work for me.  I really don’t write reviews of the actual episode so I’m kind of at a loss for what to write about.  One thing that sticks out is the interior of the TA.R.D.I.S..  I wasn’t actually impressed with the swimming pool.  Sorry, it was nice but I would have like spas or fountains or flying fish and more than just a passing glimpse.  The Library, now that was cool.  I could spend my life in the library.  The Encyclopedia Galifrey being bottled was cool, although J.K. Rowling might want some copyright money.  The Time war book seems to have caused a lot of tongue wagging on the internet.  I don’t know why, it speaks to the entropy in the universe.  No knowledge is ever lost.  My personal theory is that the Doctor swiped it from The Library (The planet, not his).  If Clara learned the Doctor’s name, the knowledge is out there now to be learned, she won’t “forget it” now.  The brothers that ran the salvage yard remembered some things and Clara is plucky, bright, and determined, otherwise she wouldn’t be a companion.  What was infinitely more interesting was Clara’s reaction to “apparently” learning the Doctor’s name.  (We don’t know that’s what she read, it could have be a line explain the T.A.R.D.I.S. in a simple way or something) Clara implied that the information that she read was something she ALREADY knew!  At least that’s the way I interpreted it.  I felt that there was too much crammed into the story.  I’ve been watching “Classic” Who and this story would have done well as a 4 or 6 part serial with the secondary story of the brothers expanded and more exploration of the T.A.R.D.I.S..  So all in all a meh episode.  It served to move the plot forward, sort of, except where it didn’t because of the wibbly-wobbly-timey-wimey stuff.  Clara learned who the Doctor was, maybe, except she didn’t because she doesn’t remember.  Only two things really happened.  One the Doctor asked Clara what she was and she said “Clara” and didn’t know about the other three versions of herself.  Two, the salvage brothers were nicer to each other.  Let’s see what happens next week when Dame Diane Rigg joins us for The Crimson Horror!

Who is the Doctor?

I was sitting here and had a horrible thought.  The doctor always lies, right?  He never has a girlfriend, except for once when he was kinda sorta married.  He's old and British.  He has a critical thinking mind.  He cant resist a puzzle.  He's very witty and thinks no one knows more then him.  He's unconvential.  No one calls him by his full name.  He's a maverick who doesn't follow the rules.  He has one or more people that he directs to do his bidding.  HOUSE!!!!  Everybody lies.  What a great misdirect!!  House is writing the whole thing as a book while in jail.  What about that?

N.B. I was watching some of the extras on The Key to Time series and they(the prodcures and writers) made references to Sherlock Holmes.  This explains a lot.  The writers for House had said they intended it to be "Sherlock Homes in a Hospital setting".  Also a neat fact, the writers for Doctor Who said that they wrote the Master to be the Doctor's Moriarty.

Alright there must be twenty five million reviews out there of the general plot, if that’s what you want go away now.  This is for the hardcore Whovians looking for double meanings and Easter eggs.  This is where the weird theories go to hide.

First, the Professor.  Where have we heard that name before?  Umm, End of the Universe last stop, the Master is calling.  Just like him to hide with the Russians.  Let me count the anachronisms.  First, wrong cassette player.   Second, Hungry Like a Wolf came out in 1982 so it wouldn’t have made it over to Cold War Russia for about five more years.  He pulled the Sonic Screwdriver and Barbie Doll out of nowhere(more on that later)after they went underwater somewhere.  He was asking Clara very personal questions.  The Ice Warrior didn’t kill him.  Why would there BE a professor on a nuclear sub?  Why would he think the ICE WARRIOR was a mammoth?(NOT EVEN SIMILAR SIZE) And I swear that the Quote ”It’s a young man’s game, all this dashing about.” is something that the First Doctor said to Ian.

Okay back to the Barbie Doll. WTF??!!?!?!?!?  The Doctor even kisses it when he gets it back.  With the current theory of this whole season being a dream, I guess it represents Rose or his ID or something?  Also the ball of string?  “They brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff” more Puff the magic dragon references?? Also the third thing the Doctor pulled out of his pocket.  I missed it on the first two viewings.  One or two people thought it was an apple.  I saw a wooden rose.  But if that was a rose what does the Barbie represent? ARRGGGG!!!  MOOOFFFAAATTTT!!!!

Also Clara mentioned Pinocchio. When she was a Dalek she wanted to be a real girl. Ha ha.  Another bad throw away, Hungry Like a Wolf= Bad Wolf= Dalek
One thing I didn’t get.  The Ice Warriors left.  Was the bomb decommissioned by the sonic, because Clara sang the song, which reminded Skaldak of his daughter, or was it the song itself?  Or was it deliberately obscure?  If so how come they can make all these little hints and subplots but the main plot bombs? Also they surfaced WAY TOO fast, anyone heard of the BENDS?!?!

Rings of Akhaten

So this is supposed to introduce us to the pace of the new companion.  Last week we saw her in a frantic pace and it was more the Doctor trying to get the feel of her and how she interacts with him.  This was more of how the tone of the series is going to be. *shrugs*  The blue screen stuff was so-so.  I really expected better.  What is it with stuff disappointing me lately? I have heard the latest online ramblings.  The whole season is supposed to be a dream, with Tennant coming back at the anniversary after not having regenerated after the End of Time.  I would love that,but not all the clues work.  One of the clues is the birds chirping.  But that is from the episode with the Dream Lord which occurs with Amy after regeneration.  Another thrown away clue was that the Doctor quoted Puff the magic dragon in this week’s episode. Missed that did you?  He tells Merry she has yet to see the painted wings and giant rings or something.  Subtle.  And he mentioned his granddaughter.  Almost everyone caught that.  Why?  He told Rose and Donna he forgot about that or removed that part of his memories or something.  Also, why was Donna left out of the companions special?  She was a GREAT companion in my opinion.  She and the Doctor has great adventures, lots of fun and without her he would have never met River, had another Daughter, defeated the Time Lords etc, etc. Sorry, tangent. So, Let’s get back to this week’s episode, shall we? The singing threw me.  It was great; the girl should have an opera career.  But I would have loved to be able to know WHAT they were singing.  The words and the dialogue were overlapping and you had to listen carefully to understand either one.  I choose the dialogue.  I would still like to hear the music though; I do appreciate it for its musicality.  I also understand that the long drawn out speech was achieving a point but it was still long and drawn out.  The Doctor’s speech was pointless after Clara made hers.  I would have also appreciated knowing why they called the monster/mummy thing grandfather unless this ties back into the whole this season is a dream thing.  That would make sense because the Doctor views himself as a mummy/monster/god/grandfather who abandoned his children/grandchildren.  If the whole season is a dream what does Clara represent? She doesn’t represent the child/grandchildren he’s lost because he’s being shown representations of them. Also interesting point, Clara’s mother was born on September 11.  The Doctor has pointed out that certain time/dates are fixed points and some are hot spots.  I would think that that date would be.  Other bloggers have pointed out that the car that almost ran over Clara’s father looked like the car that ran over Rose’s father.  If this is a dream world that would make sense because he’s pulling images he knows.  If not, that would be a freaky coincidence.  Oh well, that’s my thoughts on this week’s episode.  Feel free to yell in the comments.

If they tells us his name, it would kill the show

The Doctor is on his 13^th regen, not 12th.  He regened during Tenant’s time, just back to himself.  During Stolen Earth, Unless he absorbed some of River’s regen powers when She healed him.

Thus screws the timeline where his 13^th regen is THE VALEYARD, on GALLIFRY and all the evil the Doctor has ever BEEN.  SO by killing himself and surviving the Doctor created an alternate timeline where we have no idea how many regens each Time lord has or if Gallifrey survived the Time War.

River Song-

If the Universe is in Chaos, what does this do to River Song? Since River is Meeting him backwards she should know what’s going on.  She should have a clue who Clara is!

ON BBC Broad Casting Choices

After the Marathon BBC picked specific episodes to run.  I believe they have meaning regarding either this season or the fiftieth.

The God Complex- The title is from a line where the Doctor is told he has a god complex.  We’ve seen the trailer where he says he is very afraid.

Closing Time- Obviously this is reintroducing us to the cyber men.  I also think the baby or Craig maybe coming around again.  I thought I may have seen his face in the WI-Fi.

The Wedding of River Song-  Dealing with Time gone wrong?  An explaination of why River shows up?

The Eleventh Hour- When he crashes the Tardis, Maybe part of the redesign?  Also He said something about not quiet being done baking.  Also giant hole in the time/space continum

The Beast Below- Painting says Matt Smith.  The last place we saw painting beside VanGOGH.  Also SMilers, UGH!

So New Episode-

Cumbria 1209 That might be important

When we meet Clara she is wearing a flight wing necklace.  She is reading a book called Summer Falls by Amelia Pond.(bbc IS RELEASING THE Book) And in her front Hallway, Tom Baker’s Hat and scarf, or a fairly good replica.  I think the book might reference the fall at the plains of 10zalore.  Yes I spelled that wrong on purpose.  I think everyone caught the Jammie Dodgers.  Also this is the first time we saw the wardrobe with the modern Doctor.  The Spoonheads were very repetitive like the Snowmen. They also reminded me of the Library. The Monster from Midnight also repeated as a learning tool.

The writing on the Wi-fi HotSpot seemed to Look alien, in fact Gallireyan.  Why if it is being run by the Great Intelligence’s Agent who is human? The Motorcycle, A Triumph, appears to be the same motorbike from LET”S KILL HITLER, upgraded.  This episode also reintroduces UNIT. The first page in her travel book is LEAVE(leaf). 

Now some of these things are spoilers but I think you might get some more enjoyment watching the episode again after reading this, so I apologize to your friends and family who are as dedicated to Who as you.  They will just have to learn.

NEW WHO

I'm still processing tonight's Who.  I don't want to post any spoilers yet.  I know people haven't seen it.  Needless to say it had something for the rabid Whovians and something for those who have never seen the show. (do those people actually exsist?)  I saw many, many Easter eggs.  Appropriate.  More to follow...

Random

So forgive if I ramble a bit on this, I’m not sure where I’m going but I’ll know when I get there.  I ordered a brunch of stuff from #Amazon the other day.  Most of it was from Amazon directly but one item was from another seller.  The item from the other seller shipped first.  It was shipped #USPS first class and I expected it to arrive it about two days.  It took four.  The items from that came from Amazon directly shipped later and arrived the same day as the other package. The Amazon package was shipped #FedEx Smartpost which basically means that FedEx sends it through the USPS but guarantees delivery on time. Of  course to complete my day, one of my videos(which was sealed) was missing a disk.  I told Amazon and they have agree to replace it and refund me the money plus shipping.  I guess it was a screw up on #BBC Enterprises’ fault.  Sitting back and thinking about it I guess overall I’m happy with Amazon, pissed that I can’t watch my video, mad that I had to wait so long(when will someone invent transporters already), and happy that I will be getting my money back and that I have videos to watch and books to read.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Rumours

   

As E Plurubus Unum, that watched on BBC America as the original Doctor Who episode "The Aztecs" aired last night January, 27, 2013. There was a lot of Wiboly-Woboly Timey WiNEY talking before hand, in case you didn't notice. Some of the information on the original series was great, it was LOVELY to see David Tennant, but anyone seriously into Doctor Who will have purchased/viewed at least one DVD with extras that contain similar information. There is also available old interview footage from cast members who have passed away. It seems odd that they choose not to use it.

"The Aztecs" is a good Classic Doctor Who(once you turn a blind eye to the 60's special effects). I understand that The Powers That Be were using it to illustrate a point. They even mentioned it in the pre-show talking points. The Doctors first mentions to Barbara that certain things are fixed in time and can't be altered. Also the Doctor is almost bambozzled into getting married. But as in most of Doctor Who's predictaments, this one is resolved quickly with none of the Doctor's companion lives at stake.

Some things come to mind though. Steven Moffot for one. Another thing is that we were promised a year where Who would take over our tvs. One special a month does not cover that. According to my line up, they're not even repeating this special. My thoughts are as follows. We were promised eleven Doctors in the anniversary special, right? I think River Song is supposed to be involved in bringing them together. I think the episodes/serials of the classic/new who are being shown are easter eggs, thrown out there to put the peices of the puzzle together for those care to find out. The first episode they ran after the first Doctorspecial was "Blink". Maybe a way to retrieve the other doctors without blowing up the universe involves their (the Weeping Angels) quantumlock.

It would be odd NOT to mention the many Gene(pronounced Jenny)/Clara/Suzan mystical connections that everyone is sure will pop up. I'm more inclined to think Clara is something utterly different but that Gene and/or Suzan will show up in the anniversary special.

Is Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who? If he is going to go, what more spectacular way then on the 50th anniversary when the show is at its peak? I think he still has time on his contract, though, so don't start shopping for bow ties just yet. On the rumors about him being replaced with a time lady, hmmm. I don't think that the charector would be the same. I however would be perfectly content with a Time Lady companion, maybe even a relative. His mom, or an elderly madien aunt comes in to boss him around. That would be histerical. Or Gene or one of Suzans children would be a touching return to the original grandfather like charector.

As for all the Doctors still living showing up, your guess is as good as mine. From day to day, each one has a new story. That strikes me as a cover story for what's really going on. David Tennant for instance had said in one interview that he hadn't even been approarched reguarding the 50th anniverasry and there he was on my tv last night in beautiful HD lying color. Granted it was only an interview so he may not have seen it as Doctor Who, but what else is he lying about? Of course several of the Doctors have passed away, but hey Kayne West is on CNN right? I don't know how you would explain the ones that have aged unless they were caught on Apalapucia at different time rates to explain why they aged differently. Or they could have been made to think they were humans like David Tennant did in the 1910's when Martha was traveling with him. I DO have an explaination for the Ghosts of those who have gone before. The suits from the Library when the Vahsta Nerada ate people. It left an imprint. Little easier to achieve then a full hologram and a Time Lord could have left purposful imprints anywhen and where, like a will.

Doctor Who Announcement

Is it just me or was the hype not worth it?  There was massive hype that a big announcement was coming on January 23, 2013 regarding Doctor Who.  There were many rumors varying from believable to far fetched.  I particularly liked some of them.  I also have a few of my own.  How about that the doctor is real and actually left his blue book in 1963 when he came back in time?  Why was he back here?  To save Kennedy of course!  And because he screwed up he was turned into a human.  The 50th anniversary revives him and we find out Doctor Who! But seriously BBC you promised us that the doctor would take over our TV's this year.  At the very least, run old episodes more then the ten promised.  It's better then leftover Kitchen Nightmares or Top Gears. 

Christmas EVE thoughts

I tried to sleep.  It's not working. I feel like one of the old fashioned doll, the kind that are strung together by several pieces of string. Except one on my strings is missing, the one that connects the head and left arm.  I feel all floppy and my hand is shaking. My head feels to tight on one side and to loose on the other.  Pain pills take me away! Soon it will be Christmas and all over and I can sleep all day and no one will care. I really could sleep all day, If I don't take my new medication.  I can still nap, which is supposed to be impossible, but I can. Tomorrow, I will make a large pot of Starbucks Expresso blend coffee fresh ground and eat lots of sugar.  Then I will crash after everyone leaves and wake up just in time for Doctor Who, or if not there's always DVR!
