THE NAME OF THE DOCTOR AND FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY

So I read some of the online reviews of The Name of The Doctor.  I was… hmm… awed, shocked, flabbergasted?  I’m not sure.  Apparently, the scuttlebutt is that Moffett is a misogynistic pig who hates little children, lives to scare them and really wants to screw with the press by not sending out the full episode in the press release.  I can understand the press frustration.  Although Moffett is the producer and has a hand in the script direction and writes a few of the scripts he does not write them all.  He cannot be blamed for everything, even if you want to.  Anytime you have a major male leading character and a secondary female character there is going to be a damsel-in-distress situation that comes up.  It is a fundamental of storytelling.  As far as the complaints that the Doctor has been more “earthy” as of late, that is what society has become.  If the show did not change to reflect society, it would have been off the air years ago.
Now as to the developments in the plot, did anyone notice that Riversong was physically linked to Clara?  Why?  Why not Vastra or Jenny or the Doctor?  Clara also had the ability to read Gallifrian, maybe, in Journey to the Center of The TARDIS.  Also I didn’t like the Whispermen personally.  I think there are much scarier monsters.  Whispering angels scare the bejesus out of me, for example.
Hopefully the 50th answers some of the plot holes that you could drive a giant Mack truck through.  For instance, if the Doctor’s life was being destroyed then he would never have died on Trenzalor.  So therefore he wouldn’t have been on Trenzalor in the first place.  So busted, Moffet.  Also why introduce John Hurt as the Doctor if he “didn’t live up to the Promise” or whatever?   The current going theory is that the 50th will discuss the time war.  But that doesn’t add up to the set shots that “leaked” out.  They seemed to point to a episode that dealt with Elizabeth the first and UNIT and the Zygons.  Also there was the cryptic clue that Matt Smith said “paintings”.  WTH.  Of course, that could be a red herring.  It could all be red herrings and here we are looking for clues in the wrong ocean, so to speak.  Maybe the shots that leaked out are from season eight and DT is back to stay?  We can only wish! Maybe Van Gogh is involved in the 50th? Cezanne? Who knows? Or more appropriately, Who knows! Actually we will on the 23rd! Where did I park my TARDIS?

Review Doctor Who: HIDE

So in order of viewing this is the third “modern” Clara episode we seen, although it was the first taped.  That does seem to come across in the acting.  Matt and Jenna seem a bit unsure of themselves, their touching hesitant this lines a touch slower then the previous two episodes.  Obliviously like River they are doing it backwards!  I don’t need to write a word for word plot analysis, there must be at least twenty online as of yesterday, an more on the way.  My feeling for the plot was that is only a side show, the main purpose of these episodes is to further the Clara story arc and the 50th anniversary story arc. We have been given so many clues, but which are real and which are red herrings?

First on the list is the empathic physic, Emma Greyling. Did anyone else notice a more then startling resemblance to a young Sarah Jane Smith?  The clothes, the hair, even to the point of being a “companion”.  She did come off a little more reticent the Ms. Smith, but if my theory of this being some sort of dream sequence holds , wouldn’t the Doctor remember her softer after Amy Pond and River Song two of the most forthright companions.

Another interesting fact is the house is called Caliburn House.  This must be a reference to Excalibur.  It seems doubly so with all the mentions of water.  The witch in the well, that is an obvious reference to the lady in the lady who give Arthur the sword. Who in Doctor Who is the Lady in the Lake? River Song! That would explain why the music room is the HEART of the house.

Speaking of names, when the doctor is introduced to the professor the following exchange takes place;
Professor: oh so you’re a Doctor. Of what?
Doctor: Doctor what? That’s different
The Doctor also says that ignorance is Carlisle.  And that, “I do so love a carrier pigeon”  Well, Doctor, apparently so do I if I keep watching this show!

Some throw backs to the Old and New/old shows were in there besides the Sarah look a like.  Several of the pictures seemed like they were either of people the doctor has visited or by people he visited.  Also the statues were covered(so they couldn’t turn into Weeping angels).  One of the paintings resembled a scene from THE E-BOOK written by Amelia Pond.  The line about whiskey  being the 11th most disgusting drink ever is a throwback to Matt being the eleventh doctor.  The EYE of Harmony was THE plot point from the 1996 movie.  The Metebelis stone is from Planet of the Spiders.  Also, not a throwback to Doctor Who but Prof. Alec Palmer worked for the BAKER street ministry.(Sherlock Shout out)

SO now the TARDIS talks?  And flies itself?( I thought only the Doctor and River Song could fly the TARDIS) When did that happen?  BTW it may have looked like Clara but it sounded like the DOCTOR/DONNA. What happened to the wardrobe? It was there last week.

Some other random things that don’t fit in anywhere.
The over mentioning of HEALTH AND SAFTY. WTF
Clara said that love sticks out like a big chin. (We know what you’re thinking)
Clara is the only mystery worth solving.
Why did the Doctor bring back the “crooked man” and not take the “crooked women” home?
First time hearing the cloister bells in a long time.

Cold War Doctor Who

SO… Cold War…

Alright there must be twenty five million reviews out there of the general plot, if that’s what you want go away now.  This is for the hardcore Whovians looking for double meanings and Easter eggs.  This is where the weird theories go to hide.

First, the Professor.  Where have we heard that name before?  Umm, End of the Universe last stop, the Master is calling.  Just like him to hide with the Russians.  Let me count the anachronisms.  First, wrong cassette player.   Second, Hungry Like a Wolf came out in 1982 so it wouldn’t have made it over to Cold War Russia for about five more years.  He pulled the Sonic Screwdriver and Barbie Doll out of nowhere(more on that later)after they went underwater somewhere.  He was asking Clara very personal questions.  The Ice Warrior didn’t kill him.  Why would there BE a professor on a nuclear sub?  Why would he think the ICE WARRIOR was a mammoth?(NOT EVEN SIMILAR SIZE) And I swear that the Quote ”It’s a young man’s game, all this dashing about.” is something that the First Doctor said to Ian.

Okay back to the Barbie Doll. WTF??!!?!?!?!?  The Doctor even kisses it when he gets it back.  With the current theory of this whole season being a dream, I guess it represents Rose or his ID or something?  Also the ball of string?  “They brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff” more Puff the magic dragon references?? Also the third thing the Doctor pulled out of his pocket.  I missed it on the first two viewings.  One or two people thought it was an apple.  I saw a wooden rose.  But if that was a rose what does the Barbie represent? ARRGGGG!!!  MOOOFFFAAATTTT!!!!

Also Clara mentioned Pinocchio. When she was a Dalek she wanted to be a real girl. Ha ha.  Another bad throw away, Hungry Like a Wolf= Bad Wolf= Dalek
One thing I didn’t get.  The Ice Warriors left.  Was the bomb decommissioned by the sonic, because Clara sang the song, which reminded Skaldak of his daughter, or was it the song itself?  Or was it deliberately obscure?  If so how come they can make all these little hints and subplots but the main plot bombs? Also they surfaced WAY TOO fast, anyone heard of the BENDS?!?!
Just Saying!

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Rumours

As E Plurubus Unum, that watched on BBC America as the original Doctor Who episode "The Aztecs" aired last night January, 27, 2013. There was a lot of Wiboly-Woboly Timey WiNEY talking before hand, in case you didn't notice. Some of the information on the original series was great, it was LOVELY to see David Tennant, but anyone seriously into Doctor Who will have purchased/viewed at least one DVD with extras that contain similar information. There is also available old interview footage from cast members who have passed away. It seems odd that they choose not to use it.

"The Aztecs" is a good Classic Doctor Who(once you turn a blind eye to the 60's special effects). I understand that The Powers That Be were using it to illustrate a point. They even mentioned it in the pre-show talking points. The Doctors first mentions to Barbara that certain things are fixed in time and can't be altered. Also the Doctor is almost bambozzled into getting married. But as in most of Doctor Who's predictaments, this one is resolved quickly with none of the Doctor's companion lives at stake.

Some things come to mind though. Steven Moffot for one. Another thing is that we were promised a year where Who would take over our tvs. One special a month does not cover that. According to my line up, they're not even repeating this special. My thoughts are as follows. We were promised eleven Doctors in the anniversary special, right? I think River Song is supposed to be involved in bringing them together. I think the episodes/serials of the classic/new who are being shown are easter eggs, thrown out there to put the peices of the puzzle together for those care to find out. The first episode they ran after the first Doctorspecial was "Blink". Maybe a way to retrieve the other doctors without blowing up the universe involves their (the Weeping Angels) quantumlock.

It would be odd NOT to mention the many Gene(pronounced Jenny)/Clara/Suzan mystical connections that everyone is sure will pop up. I'm more inclined to think Clara is something utterly different but that Gene and/or Suzan will show up in the anniversary special.

Is Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who? If he is going to go, what more spectacular way then on the 50th anniversary when the show is at its peak? I think he still has time on his contract, though, so don't start shopping for bow ties just yet. On the rumors about him being replaced with a time lady, hmmm. I don't think that the charector would be the same. I however would be perfectly content with a Time Lady companion, maybe even a relative. His mom, or an elderly madien aunt comes in to boss him around. That would be histerical. Or Gene or one of Suzans children would be a touching return to the original grandfather like charector.

As for all the Doctors still living showing up, your guess is as good as mine. From day to day, each one has a new story. That strikes me as a cover story for what's really going on. David Tennant for instance had said in one interview that he hadn't even been approarched reguarding the 50th anniverasry and there he was on my tv last night in beautiful HD lying color. Granted it was only an interview so he may not have seen it as Doctor Who, but what else is he lying about? Of course several of the Doctors have passed away, but hey Kayne West is on CNN right? I don't know how you would explain the ones that have aged unless they were caught on Apalapucia at different time rates to explain why they aged differently. Or they could have been made to think they were humans like David Tennant did in the 1910's when Martha was traveling with him. I DO have an explaination for the Ghosts of those who have gone before. The suits from the Library when the Vahsta Nerada ate people. It left an imprint. Little easier to achieve then a full hologram and a Time Lord could have left purposful imprints anywhen and where, like a will.
