Is there any polite way

To say goodbye?

To ask someone to leave

Not your heart but your head?

I’m quicksilver

Pretty to think about

But deadly poisonous

I wish my own reactions were as quick

I certainly recoil as fast

My compass will always

Point true north

Willing to lead me home

Sooner or later I must plant roots

We may share DNA with vegetables

And be fundamentally similar

But I see myself as more of a carnivore

And lately I feel

Simply famished
